Doctor Who

If I had to choose a perfect distraction for the night before the last long run of my marathon training, the new series of Doctor Who would be it.

At this point what I should do is explain to the three people left in the universe who don’t watch Doctor Who why I love it so, but I’m still inarticulate with squee.

‘You’re Scottish, fry something’ – favourite Doctor Who line ever.

Matt Smith was exceptional as the Doctor, bringing hints of all ten previous incarnations and the impression of an old soul in a young body. Steven Moffat said their plans for the eleventh doctor were turned upside down when they saw him audition, and I can see why.

He was better than David Tennant.

He was alien, human, ugly, handsome – all at the same time.

I’m off for a run with my sister, who isn’t a nerd like me.

  1. I am REALLY looking forward to watching on replay now! Hope the run goes well! x

    Thank you!

I can't tell you how amazing it was. As a long term fan and ultranerd, I was terrified that Matt Smith wasn't going to work, but I trusted Steven Moffat's judgement. It was just breathtakingly brilliant!

…but but David Tennant is SCOTTISH – you traitor! (heard Stephen Moffat interviewed on radio last week – he sounds wonderful – I think he would make a good Dr Who next time they regenerate him)

  4. Kate says:

It was fab. My kids (5 and 3) didn't understand where the doctor had gone but there were lots of giggles and a few bury-your-face-into-mummy-or-daddy moments so in that, it delivered. Still brilliant after all these years.

  5. Linda says:

Hmm. I'm one of the three, I'm afraid. My only Doctor Who experience: seeing snippets of old episodes from the '60s and '70s, which only my brother watched. (Don't hit me — it seemed low-budget, cultish and a little ridiculous. Was that its charm? I'm sure the new ones are better.)
Glad you enjoyed it so much, though! Your enthusiasm makes me curious. And hope you have a good run with your sister. xo

  6. I loved Matt Smith in Party Animals so when I heard that he was the new Doctor I was most excited and he didn't let me down bless him!!! Hope the run went well today xx

  7. Rachael says:

I didn't see Party Animals, so I'll have to find it on DVD and have a watch. He is a brilliant actor, isn't he?

Run went ok – a bit of a learning curve! Part 2 tonight!

  8. Rachael says:

It used to be all of those things. Now it's bigger budget, funny, intelligent, and addictive. We all love it here. Give it a whirl!

  9. Rachael says:

I know! And the magic of the new doctor – I can still remember when Tom Baker turned into Peter Davidson, and how amazing it was. So it's lovely for our children to have that magic too. Mine loved it, and despite being diehard David Tennant fans, they loved Matt Smith too.

  10. Rachael says:

He does sound lovely, doesn't he?

Was such a nice surprise to see Nick yesterday – although I was so tempted to make him run and I could have just sneaked in for coffee instead!
