the long run (part 2)
The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start – John Bingham
So. A long run is a learning experience, designed to iron out problems and help to focus your mind on the big day.
Lessons from yesterday:
Don’t leave your trainers in Croydon (Zoe)
If a sock feels a bit tight and uncomfortable at 1 mile, it’ll cause the biggest blister known to man by 18 miles (Rachael)
Don’t leave your headphones sitting on the windowsill (Zoe)
Don’t wear your old iPhone armband or you’ll spend 18 miles fiddling with it (Rachael)
All size 8 trainers are not equal (Zoe)
Village pubs are very friendly and much nicer than weeing in a field (Rachael)
When someone says that running 18 miles on country roads is boring they’re not exaggerating (Zoe)
18 miles takes longer than you’d think (both)
Thanks to our mum, we can walk a mile in 14 minutes 20 seconds (both)
Carb loading really works (Rachael)
We really will make it round 26.2 (both)
Oh and one more thing:
Too many energy gels are not a good thing. Blurp.

heheh
you pair of nobs.
funny how trainers are so easy to forget – i leave mine when i go to the gym too
Hahaha! I know. I suspect things like that are what sorts out the proper runners from the likes of us. I bet Paula Radcliffe never forgot her trainers.
You will make it the 26.2!! Well done on doing your 18…that's amazing and I agree with you on energy gels…urgh!!! Even now the thought of them makes me feel sick!!!
Wow! Huge congrats to the pair of you, I'm balking at the idea of going out for a 2 mile run and you're doing 18!!!
Fab xxx
YAY! You rock mama! 26.2 is gonna be a breeze! No time to get bored with everyone cheering you on and shouting your name! Bring it on
Well done on your long run. I went through 3 gels on my last one, but they do make a difference I think. Not long to go now is it, I'm getting really excited as well as having dreams about forgetting to register at the expo and not being able to run! Aaaarrrgh!
I think after this I'll never, ever want to taste that sickly orange taste again. Bleargh!
Ah, but you can remember when it took me an hour to run/walk 3.75 miles! xx
I can't wait! Are we going to have a tweetup? xxx
I can't remember where my really important bit of paper is. I think I know, but I'm too scared to check in case it isn't where I think it is. And last night I dreamt all night about running! It's bonkers, isn't it?
18 miles? Good for you. Was it raining?
It threatened to rain, but it was pretty perfect weather – cool, not too bright, mostly overcast. But we did it. Yay us!
